Faculty of Forest Engineering

The faculty offers training of Bachelors of Engineering and Technology in the following areas: 250400.62 Technology and Equipment of Logging and Woodworking, majors in Forest Engineering and Woodworking Technology, 270800.62 Building, major in Road Building, 250100.62 Forestry, major in Forest Management, 250700.62 Landscape Architecture, major in Landscape Development and Construction,151000.62 Technological Machines and Equipment, major in Machines and Equipment of Timber Industry. Besides, a Master's program is offered upon which completion a Master's degree on Engineering and Technology is conferred. Since 2009 the faculty offers Master's courses in all areas of training.

The faculty is polytechnical, it trains highly skilled experts for the most important branches of national economy – enterprises of timber processing inductry, mechanical engineering, motor transport, highways, power, etc.

During their training students of all specializations receive strong skills of using personal computers, study modern systems of automated designing (CAD), get acquainted with the latest scientific and technical achievements in the field of designing, working principles, operation and repair of modern domestic and foreign machines and mechanisms, as well as management. They study new technologies and control systems, including those with use of microprocessors, get acquainted with new forest technologies and progressive methods of timber-processing, the newest forest restoration technologies.

Gaining fundamental knowledge of general engineering and special disciplines graduates of the faculty work successfully for various industrial enterprises, in timber and pulp-and-paper industries and forestry, at the motor transportation enterprises, in law-enforcement bodies, in design and research institutions, in educational institutions as teachers, managers at the various enterprises of the forest branch.

Upon majoring in Forestry, graduates may work as forest wardens, wood-organizers, wood-pathologists in the sphere of forest cultivation and design of forestry activities, forestry managers, pilots and observers of aero-guarding service.

Students skilled in foreign languages have an opportunity to work on probation and study in educational institutions abroad. In 2000 the faculty was granted membership in SILVA Network, the organization uniting faculties of forestry of the countries of the European Union.

Since 2008 the faculty offers training on the speciality 250203 Landscape Development and Construction, and since 2011 – in 250700.62 Landscape Architecture, major in Landscape Development and Construction. This speciality, according to the Academic and methodical association for education in the field of forest engineering, is the most prestigious in the Russian Federation. Students take advanced courses of landscape design, landscape construction, beautification and arrangement of green spaces in cities. Graduates may work in architectural and engineer companies, national parks, reserves, botanical gardens, beautification centers, landscape park-and-garden centers, wood farms, etc. The Faculty has a branch of the Chair of Forest Engineering in the Forest Research of the Karelian Research Centre of the RAS and a branch of the Chair of Technology of Metals and Repair at Petrozavodskmash JSC.

At the Faculty there are 12 doctors of sciences, full professors, postgraduate and doctoral training courses are offered, there are Dissertation Councils for Ph.D. and doctoral thesises defense.
