In 1996 the Chair of History of Pre-Revolutionary Russia for the first time has offered a "History. Record keeping and departmental archives" major. Since 2001/2002 it offers a
020800 "History and Archive Administration" major
with graduate "Record keeping and departmental archives" education.
Students majoring in "History and Archive Administration" Students receive fundamental grounding in historical, archive administration, and record keeping. The system of training includes obligatory work on probation on archive administration, archeography and office-work. Graduates receive "Historian and Archivist" qualification and are able to work in bodies of government and management, archives, establishments and organizations as archivists and experts on management documentary maintenance.
The range of professional skills of such experts is quite wide. They know methods providing usual and electronic document circulation and archive administration. They know methods of document creation using various styles of description and registration. They are very well acquainted to working standards and normative documents in the field of creation of documents that is especially important in introducing international system of quality and Russia's entering the international information space. Specialists in record keeping can estimate authenticity of the document and provide authorized access to it. These experts are perfectly trained in the field of computer science, creation of documents and databases, are acquainted to text and graphic editors, able to work in computer networks. Specialists in record keeping possess good knowledge in the field of law, economics, management, ethics of business coomunication, Russian and documentary linguistics. They are both familiar with office technics, and work of a secretary to management.
Since 2001 this major offers students 25 day time budgetary places. Training of students on correspondence branch is accomoplished on the basis of secondary education (6 years) and on the basis of higher, higher and secondary vocational education (3,5 years).
In 1999 a State Examination Commission has been generated and started to work on graduate "Record keeping and departmental archives" education, and since 2003 there works a State Certifying Commission on "History and Archive Aadministration" major.
Under the agreement between PetrSU and Russian State Humanitarian University (RSHU) teachers of Historical and Archival Institute of the RSHU take active part in training experts in archive administration.
