
The Chair of foreign languages has started teaching foreign languages in 2004. Now it is a part of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences. The primary goal of the Chair is comprehensive studying of foreign languages along with the extended learning of the translation major. Curriculums of disciplines taught at the Chair correspond to the requirements of the national standard, on a number of disciplines there have been published the author's study guides developed by teachers of the Chair.
Students of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences have an opportunity to study English, Swedish, French and German as foreign languages.
Studuing of foreign languages comprises the following aspects: practice of oral and written speech, regional geography, legal English, oral and written translation, phonetics, press, business English, practical grammar, practice of translation, yearly research projects in translation. Teaching foreign languages the faculty actively uses modern linguaphone and computer labs, the audio- and video-record library of tapes in foreign languages, students have a good choice of treatises and periodicals in foreign languages.
Since 2008 the English language entrance examination is cancelled for all specialities (political science, sociology and social work), except for the international relations major. English language entrance examination for the international relations major includes a written lexico-grammatical test. Tasks for entrance examinations are prepared fully in accordance with the regulations of school education and Programs of entrance examinations approved by PetrSU.
