The chair of tractive machines hs been founded in 1958. The chair trains specialists in forestry machines and mechanisms.

The chair possesses laboratories of engines of internal combustion, metallography and technical measurements, general heating engineering and heat transfer, laboratory of metal-cutting devices, metalwork workshop. The students of all majors work on probation at the study base in the village of Matrosy.

Courses performed at the chair:

• forestry transport machines;

• design of technological equipment;

• forestry machines' construction;

• theoretical basics of technical exploitation and diagnostics of the equipment condition;

• microprocessors;

• decision-making;

• geographical informational systems (GIS, etc.)

Cooperation

Within the past years the chair has expanded the relation with international scientific institutions and universities. The instructors of the chair participate in international seminars and accomplish joint research within the international projects "Taiga - model forest" and "Tempus-TACIS".
