Chair of computer aids design
1) Numerical Methods in Engineering Applications
Timing: 3rd year
Objective: The objective of this course is to introduce engineering
applications of numerical methods and to overview the computational approaches
while solving engineering problems of basic types.
Learning Outcomes: After completion of the course, the student will be
better equipped to understand the basic numerical methods and to apply these
methods to particular engineering problems. The students will be familiarized
with how to analyze and computationally solve such problems through the
programming environment of SciLab.
Contents: Topics covered include: nonlinear equations, systems of linear
equations, eigenvalue problem, interpolation, numerical differentiation and
integration, solution of differential equations. The discussed applications
include examples from mechanics.
Working methods: Lectures, computer laboratory activities, four home
tutorials per course.
Assessment methods: Lectures and laboratory exercises participation,
tutorial results presentations, and exams.
Grading: 2-5
Prerequisites: It is expected that before taking this course students
have fundamental understanding of Linear Algebra and Strength of Materials.
