An Investigative Laboratory for Local and Microhistory of Karelia (ILLMiK) was established on June 1, 2004, to support further education of students who chose to specialize in the field of "Archives and Documentation." The first stage of ILLMiK activity concentrates on implementing the Teaching-Editing-Research Project (TERP). TERP is under development in accordance with the agreement signed by rectors of Petrozavodsk State University (Russia) and University of Joensuu (Finland), the Director of the Max-Planck Institute for History in Goettingen (Germany) and the Director of Saint-Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences on 14 of October, 2003.
