Simon Barns-Sadler, student of the Department of Linguistics of the University of Cambridge, and at the moment student of PetrSU has been one of the presenters of the Literary Soiree devoted to creativity to Robert Burns.
The Literary Soiree was organized by Petrozavodsk musical school and City showroom. Simon read poems of the famous poet in original language. It means, that he had to use his experience of a linguist to prepare for performing and to reconstructing the so-called 'highhill dialect' which nobody speaks now even in Scotland. Simon has read through some poems among which there were Poor Mailie's Elegy and Address To A Haggis, has sang a The Song Of Death ballad which he has set to music, together with musical school students participated in choral singing of songs on Burns's poems. The audience where were students and teachers of various educational institutions of the city has gave a storm of applause to our students' performance, and the Literary Soiree organizers expressed their sincere and profound gratitude.
