Meeting of Rector Anatoly Voronin and Deans of Faculties with the Governor of Oulu, Honourable Doctor of PetrSU Eino Siuruainen was held in the conference hall of Petrozavodsk State University.
The meeting was held right after signing the Memorandum on Cooperation between the two territories by the Governor Eino Siuruainen and Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov. For more than 15 years the province of Oulu and the Republic of Karelia have been cooperating in such areas, as public health services, economy, tourism, sports, work of law-enforcement system, as well as in the sphere of development of the transport corridor between Europe and Northwest of Russia.
In Petrozavodsk State University participants of the meeting discussed some issues of reforming of the administrative system of Finland and changes in the system of education to be caused by reorganization of the administrative structure.
Cooperation between Karelia and the province of Oulu provides teamwork of scientific centres, universities, institutes of technology, and promotes development of student exchange programs and contacts between teachers and experts.
Faculties of Petrozavodsk State University support scientific cooperation with universities of Kuopio and Oulu. Thus, for example active cooperation with Oulu is supported by the Faculty of History where the Laboratory on the problems of Scandinavian countries and Finland was founded, teachers and students of the Faculty of Baltic and Finnish Philology and Culture work as interpreters at the Finnish-Russian cultural events: forums, conferences, congresses, and students of the Faculty of Agriculture annually work on probation at farms and other agricultural enterprises of Finland.
Since 2003 Eino Siuruainen has become the Honourable Doctor of PetrSU and is awarded by the Russian state award of the Order of Friendship.
