Delegation of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council in PetrSU

Delegation of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council in PetrSUDelegation of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) comprising ambassadors and ambassadors at large of Ministries for Foreign Affairs of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland has visited Petrozavodsk State University. Russian and foreign diplomats participated in the session of the Committee within the scope of Russia's presidency in the BEAC held these days in the capital of Karelia.

Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Pavel Chernov has noted, that many projects in the sphere of culture, education, economy and innovations have been implemented in 15 years of the Barents cooperation. In two years of Karelia's presidency in the Regional Barents Euro-Arctic Council (2005 - 2007) it has proved in such spheres as: ecology, public health services, education.

Now Petrozavodsk State University has initiated to head the Working group of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council on education and science. The PetrSU's initiative has been approved.

Delegation of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council in PetrSUTo tell the delegation participants of opportunities of Petrozavodsk State University they were offered an excursion on the university has been organized. Rector of PetrSU, Professor Anatoly Voronin has briefly told about history of the university and about its present achievements. The delegation have visited the Scientific Library of PetrSU and the Regional Center of New Information Technologies.

Director of the Scientific Library of PetrSU Marina Otlivanchik has told about the library stock and its services aimed at perfection of information library service: access to full-text scientific electronic resources of leading publishing houses of the world and ordering of documents from libraries of Russia and foreign countries within the interlibrary subscription; cooperation with libraries from different countries and electronic document delivery, as well as on creation of the e-Library of the Republic of Karelia together with the Regional Center of New Information Technologies and the library's work on creation of humanitarian environment of the institute of higher education.

Any library's zest is the rare book department where visitors were shown ancient hand-written books.

Delegation of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council in PetrSUDirector of the Regional Center of New Information Technologies, Vice-rector for Informatization of PetrSU Natalya Ruzanova has presented Internet-resources developed at the Regional Center of New Information Technologies, as well as the educational portal of the RK created as a uniform access window to educational resources, and the Official Government Portal of the RK supported in Russian, English, and Finnish languages.

Great interest was aroused in the visitors by Russian and international projects carried out in the department of geoinformation systems, including representation of open information of bodies of the government through the interactive map of the Republic of Karelia, ise of ICT for especially protected natural territories, in the field of ecology, and in the field of research in history and architecture.
