By invitation of the Chair of General History of PetrSU Professor of the University of Joensuu (Finland) J.Korpela offers a special course for students majoring in History upon attending which they will obtain additional qualification of Interpretor in the Sphere of the Professional Communication (English Language). The lectures are devoted to covering the basic events of historical development of the Western civilization and Rome, as basic landmarks of its becoming.
The course of lectures allows to repeat and advance in knowledge received within the course of the History of Ancient Rome; much attention is paid there to Christianity as a factor that promoted unity of citizens of the Roman empire.
As the introduction theme J.Korpela has chosen the review of the period of history of antiquity of the Roman state, that, according to students, promoted to structure their knowledge received earlier on the given subjects, namely geographical features, administration, political and economic features, cultural condotion.
The greatest advantage of the special course is that it is taught in English, that has helped students to strengthen their skills in perception of foreign speech, and also to improve their vocabulary of historical terms.
