Around the world in Two Double Class Periods!

It has become a tradition that by the end of the academic year international students studying Russian in our university take final exams and participate in the learning conference. This year the conference was devoted to the students' native or favorite cities of the world. There have been made eight reports about Boston (USA), Ansan (South Korea), Oslo (Norway), Helsinki (Finland), York (Great Britain), Seoul (South Korea), New Orleans (USA), Las Vegas (USA). Reports have been well-prepared, accompanied it with bright multimedia presentations and were heard with great interest.

By the end of performances speakers answered questions of the audience interested whether New Orleans overcame consequences of the hurricane, whether there are any conflicts between inhabitants of Las Vegas and gamblers, how many presidents of the USA were born in Boston and other details. It is interesting, that the report about Las Vegas was prepared by Norwegian student Jonas Gjervold who lived in America when he was a child. He, and Korean student Sonnyon Y, who told about Ansan, received the Audience Choice Award at the summarizing. Englishman David Moore of York, having told interesting facts from the history and modern life of his city in an artistic manner and in good Russian, became the first in the opinion of the teaching jury. In general opinion, the conference has allowed students both to show their improved Russian language skills, and in only four hours make a small round-the-world trip.
