The XIII Annual International Workshop on Advances in Methods of Information and Communication Technology, AMICT ’2009 opened in Petrozavodsk State University.
Vice-rector for Informatization, Associate Professor, Natalia Ruzanova and Head of the Chair of Computer Science of the faculty of mathematics of PetrSU Yury Bogoyavlensky have opened the annual workshop. Natalia Ruzanova has briefly told representatives of the official delegation from Helsinki about training of experts in information technologies in PetrSU, having noted that their achievements are recognized at the highest levels, such as the World and European Collegiate Programming Contests. Participation in Petrozavodsk programming training camps in a large measure contribute to victories of Russian programmers.
Yury Bogoyavlensky has noted, that carrying out of annual seminars promotes successful implementation of joint projects of PetrSU and the University of Helsinki and discovering new forms of co-operation. Thus, for example, one of the brightest projects is development of software for Nokia Internet Tablet PCs for the Maemo platform and teaching short-term courses on software development by employees of the Chair of Computer Science of PetrSU in higher educational institutions and other organizations of Russia.
The workshop is organized by the Chair of Computer Science of the University of Helsinki (Finland) and Chair of Computer Science of PetrSU within the scope of the Agreement on Cooperation between the two universities.
Participants of the meeting will hear 17 reports presented by experts of universities of both cities, Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Science and St.-Petersburg State University.
This year the workshop id featured for the section of student software engineering projects carried out within the scope of cooperation betwen PetrSU and Nokia corporation.
In their reports students of PetrSU will show the software developed.
During the current workshop there will pass a round table discussion of issues of cooperation betwen PetrSU and its Finnish partners.
