Visit of Italian delegation to PetrSU

Our university was visited by delegation from Italy comprising architects and restorers, representatives of the mayoralties and municipalities of Massa Martana and Montepulcano, teachers of the University of Florence led by Professor Stefano Bertocci.

Visit of foreign guests has begun with a meeting with the PetrSU Rector Anatoly Voronin, President Victor Vasiliev, Professor of the Chair of Architecture and Drawing of PetrSU, Academician of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Science Vyacheslav Orfinsky, head of Directorate for International Cooperation Lyudmila Kulikovskaya.

"Petrozavodsk State University and University of Florence cooperate very well, which promotes strengthening of contacts with Italy," - Anatoly Voronin has noted, telling the Italian guests about PetrSU. Stefano Bertocci, Professor of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Florence, also has presented his university, where at the Faculty of Architecture only there study about 15 thousand students.

The delegation from Italy has visited the Scientific Library of PetrSU, where its director Marina Otlivanchik has told to the guests about history of the library, its departments and funds, and technical facilities. Guests from Italy have also visited reading hall, reference and bibliography department and the fund of rare books which totals more than 21 thousand volumes.

In the afternoon in PetrSU the delegation met with the Dean of the Faculty of Industrial and Civil Engineering Yury Markadanov, Dean of the Faculty of Forest Engineering Alexander Pitukhin, director of Research Institute of Historical and Theoretical Problems of National Architecture Vyacheslav Orfinsky, head of the department of Geo-Information Systems of the Regional Center of New Information Technologies of PetrSU Anatoly Shreders, Lyudmila Kulikovskaya and her assistant Alexander Berdino.

At the meeting there have been made three presentations brought by the delegation from Italy. Risero Tiberi, Professor of the Faculty of Agricultural Biotechnologies of the University of Florence, has told about his faculty and its activity. Professor Stefano Bertocci has presented work completed by the Faculty of Architecture together with the "Piacenti" restoration center on the spot of excavation of ancient complex of buildings devoted to Bacchus. The teacher of the University of Florence Sandro Parinello has told about intermediate results of research conducted by him and six Italian students in the village of Bolshaya Selga, about methods and means of description of architectural monuments.

"We hope, that you will treasure pleasant impressions of Karelia, - Vyacheslav Orfinsky said by the end of the meeting.- In turn, we are glad we had an opportunity to get acquainted with your methods and to exchange experience in the sphere of preservation of monuments of architecture." The meeting participants have been invited to the festival in Bolshaya Selga on Thursday, August 2, to visit this historical village and see their Italian colleagues at work.
