The four-week language training of students of the University of Birmingham, Great Britain, was concluded by the solemn presentation of Certificates and souvenirs. Such trainings for students majoring in the humanities (languages, history, literature, and politics) with specialization in Russian language have become regular since 2006. It is pleasant to note, that this year the group was headed by Natalie Hill who four years ago came to study in our university as a sophomore and a member of the very first group of English students.
Every day fifteen English students were zealously studying grammar, spoken language and phonetics. The final grammar test and conference on vital topics have shown how training in Russia and living in the language environment were effective and interesting to these students. On results of the courses there have been nominated the best student in grammar, the best speech at the conferences, the best essay on the subject Karelia Familiar and Unfamiliar.
It is necessary to tell, that the local history component was the important part of the program. Students from Birmingham attended lectures on history of Karelia, went on excursions across Petrozavodsk and its vicinities, made a trip to Kizhi and participated in master-classes on national northern arts and crafts.
Cultural program of their stay was diverse: sports, excursions, parties. Especially popular were the British Party prepared by students from Birmingham and the Russian Party prepared by teachers. Both events proceeded in a friendly cheerful atmosphere.
Thus, language training of students from Birmingham was useful, interesting and cheerful. We look forward to the new meetings!
