Participation of representatives of PetrSU in the First world congress on ecological historyScientists of the Research Laboratory for Local and Micro-History of Karelia operating at the Faculty of History of Petrozavodsk State University since 2004 under the direction of the Deputy Dean for Research and International Cooperation Associate Professor Irina Chernyakova have taken part in the First World Congress on ecological history which key subject was Local Livelihoods And Global Challenges: Understanding Human Interaction With The Environment.

The congress was held from August 3 to 8 in Copenhagen, Denmark, under the aegis of Roskilde University, Denmark, Malmo University, Sweden, and International Consortium Environmental History Organizations (ICEHO).

In total in work of the congress there have taken part more than 650 lecturers from all over the world. In five working days there have been held 10 sessions, within each of them there have taken place no less than 12-13 thematic group sessions.

The section entitled Karelia as an object of governmental good intentions towards natural and human environment in the retrospect in which representatives of PetrSU have taken part was a success.

Reports of the Director of the Research Laboratory for Local and Micro-History of Karelia Irina Chernyakova in the co-authorship with the Deputy Director O.Chernyakov, expert of the laboratory E.D.Suslova, and undergraduate student of the Russian-Finnish Cross-Border University A.Sobisevich made at the congress with presentations have caused a great interest and active discussion of colleagues from Russia and Finland.

Participation in the congress of representatives of PetrSU became possible thanks to financial support of the examination center of scientific research of Karelian institute at the University of Joensuu (Europe beyond East-West Division: Centre of Expertise in Russian and Border Studies).

Participants of the congress have gained lots of impressions from the rich scientific program, and from excursions to the noteworthy places of Denmark.
