Seminar on the subject of Intellectual Network Spaces of the Future: Smart Spaces Technologies took place in Petrozavodsk State University.
The seminar was held by the leading research officer of Nokia Research ัenter in Helsinki (Finland), representative of the university cooperation program in Russia and the CIS Sergey I.Balandin, Cand.Tech.Sci., PhD in telecommunications.
Smart Spaces technology (intellectual spaces) as a new paradigm of programming, including programming for the Internet and mobile devices (phones, tablet PCs, netbooks, etc.) was presented at the lecture. It develops actively at the support of large world corporations (e.g., Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, FIAT). Students have got acquainted with characteristics of intellectual network spaces which are distributed warehouses and intellectual information handlers (computer networks, mobile devices, home appliances, cars, etc.). Internet containing huge volume of diverse data is an example of such space. Other example are mobile phones containing data of its user. Use of the information received from different sources and processed in a 'smart' way also allows to solve many interesting and useful tasks. For example, automatic compiling of agenda of a meeting on the basis of information from mobile devices of all participants of the meeting. It does not exclude personal control of the user, as it is obvious that the information component of appendices becomes 'smart' only at participation of human mind. At solution of a specific task there occurs interaction between several intellectual spaces and the user obtans a result to interpret and use. Perhaps, this result would need further processing with use of other intellectual spaces. There has been announced M3 platform (multipart, multidevice and multivendor) which is a specific implementation of the Smart Space technology. Now PetrSU intends to join in research and development of this platform.
Sergey Balandin has told young programmers about essential aspects of business-model of developed solutions, for example, maintenance of production continuity and stability. Success of the new solution in many respects is provided due to developer's understanding of needs of the user in specific solution at the certain moment of time. Such production stability will provide constant leading positions in the market of services, that under conditions of intensive development of the IT-industry is essential for preservation of competitiveness of manufacturing company.
