On October 20, 2009 Petrozavodsk State University hosted the meeting of participants of the Joint Working Group in Education and Research (JWGER) of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region.
The meeting's venue was not casual as under the decision made on May 12, 2009 at the session of the Barents Regional Committee, PetrSU was appointed by the Regional Chairman of Group for the period of two years.
At the meeting there came representatives of universities of the Russian regions of the BEAR, namely Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions, the Republics of Komi, representatives of the Information Bureau of the Nordic Council of Ministers in St.-Petersburg. International partner universities participated in work of the Group in absentia.
Discussion of prospects of cooperation in the field of education and research in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region was lively. Participants have considered interestedly the project offers presented by participating universities as well as the report of the Deputy Director of the Information Bureau of the Nordic Council of Ministers E.N.Golubeva about the new program Improvement of Professional Skills and Network Cooperation Development (2009 2013).
As a result there have been made specific decisions on development of joint projects in the field of education and research. Intermediate results on their implementation will be presented in January 2010 at the virtual meeting of the Group.
