Informatization of Forestry: Topical Problems conference has been launched on the basis of Petrozavodsk State University.

Head of the Federal Forestry Agency Viktor Maslyakov, Head of Karelia Andrei Nelidov, deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation and Chairlady of the State Duma Committee for Problems of the North and the Far East Valentina Pivnenko, Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia and Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia Valentin Luntsevich, Deputy Head of Federal Forestry Agency N.Krotov, Rector of PetrSU Anatoly Voronin, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Science, President of the KarRC RAS Alexander Titov have taken part in the conference opening ceremony.

Head of the Federal Forestry Agency Viktor Maslyakov has addressed to participants of the conference with words of welcome: "Forest is of great importance for the economy of Karelia. Earlier the experience of timber merchants of the republic was spread all over the country. Karelia was in the lead in implementation of technological solutions. Now Karelia has everything to return to former positions: broad experience, huge scientific potential, developments in the field of informatization. Today the republic fits into economic system of the Russian Federation, experts in forestry and scientists Karelia take active part in actions of the Federal Forestry Agency."

Chief Federal Inspector in the Republic of Karelia Alexander Hynninen has read out a message of greetings to the conference participants on behalf of Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation to the Northwest Federal District S.Zimin which, in particular, said: "Now the problem of restoration of ecological, economic and social functions of the forest is especially acute. Development of forest transport infrastructure in areas of the Northwest Federal District is extremely necessary as perspective large forests have remained only in economically inaccessible areas. I hope that these and other important problems become a subject of professional discussion at the conference."

"It is important that the conference is held in the Republic of Karelia which is a unique forest region of the country. In the European part of the country there is no more protogenic region which has kept traditions, and possessing strong scientific potential. All this creates preconditions that Karelia may become an experimental platform for implementation of innovations. It is important, that the management of the Federal Forestry Agency considers Karelia the region to count on in this sphere, the region that may become a leader in forest industry," - said Head of Karelia Andrei Nelidov.

Urgency of the subject of the conference is indicated by the fact that among its participants there are heads of federal agencies, experts from different regions of the country, students of the Faculty of Forest Engineering of PetrSU, scientists in the field of forest industry and information technologies. "Petrozavodsk State University has one of the best in the country faculties of forest engineering, and is also one of the leaders in the country in the field of informatization, - said Rector of PetrSU Anatoly Voronin. – Today it is impossible to be competitive without information technologies. Karelia has everything to become a pilot region in development of new methods and new technologies." Anatoly Voronin has especially pointed out that Petrozavodsk State University it is ready to share its solutions in the field of informatization of forestry.

The goal of the conference is formation of the system to exchange experience in the field of modernization and automation of Russia's forestry control system, formation of professional community and informing of all interested people on the course of modernization and automation of the system.

More than 120 participants have come to the conference: heads of the Federal Forestry Agency, its territorial bodies and lower organizations, bodies of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation to the Northwest Federal District, Government of the Republic of Karelia, bodies of local government, Saint-Petersburg State Forest Technical Academy, experts of the Central forest areas of the Republic of Karelia and Karelian scientists.

They will discuss strategy of informatization of the forest industry; principles and mechanisms of interaction (including electronic) with constituent entities of the RF, bodies of local government, forestries, citizens and business entities; integration of regions' experience into solution of tasks of forestry informatization; issues of formation of the state wood register, automation of workplaces of forest wardens, provision of services electronically, as well as global experience of introducing information technologies for forestry management.

Head of the Federal Forestry Agency Viktor Maslyakov has presented his paper on the subject of: Task for Development and Modernization of the forestry control system. Prospects of implementation of innovative technological solutions and information systems. Representatives of the Russian regions – Karelia, Vologda Region, from Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area will share experience of introducing information technologies in forestry.

On the second day the conference will offer discussions about problems of creation of the Uniform automated information system of the forest branch and prospects of creation of a uniform GIS-platform of the forest industry.

The conference will work until October, 14.
