Chair of culturology
Creative laboratory of PetrSU
The creative laboratory being attached to the chair of culturology provides additional education in the following fields:
- stage-painting,
- photography,
- stage art (
theatre-studio, ball dance,
choir singing,
folk music and dances) and
- decorative applied art, represented by such specialisations as - embroidery,
knitting, frivolite (tatting), gobelin, textile plastics,
bead-weaving, birch-bark weaving, clothing design and artistic leather processing.
For many university graduates the additional profession obtained in the creative laboratory has become the basic one (for journalists, photographers, librarians,
guides, etc.) or helped while looking for a job.

The students of stage-painting class
study the art of still life, stage-paintingn and portraits.
They have the opportunity of trying various techniques:
water-colours, gouache, pastel, coal, etc. The class has its annual exhibitions.

The class of photography has been created in 1967 and trains students ever since. The main style is black-and-white photography. The main aim is to assist students in mastering traditional techniques of photography and developing creative approach and taste. During more than 30 year period of its work the class has trained over 800. students. The graduates have musteres the technique of color photography, they are the authors of personal exhibitions. The pictures of the students are published in "Petrozavodskij universitet (Petrozavodsk University)" and newspapers of the republic. Many of the pictures are published on photoserver -

The guides to work in summer at the Kizhi museum. The students speaking English, French or German are accepted.

The mural napless rugs with ornamental or subject compositions have always been original and unique decorations for anyone's home. The instructor M.N.Permyakova teaches students to create such carpets in the
Studio "Gobelin (tapestry)". To create a tapestry one doesn't need any complicated instruments or devices, but the technique of tapestry is simple for anyone eager to master this type of applied art.

Knitting - is one of the oldest types of applied arts. Being able to knit will not only give you the aesthetic pleasure but also will help you to create the most simple, necessary and original ware that bring comfort and cosiness to you and your home. The annual exhibitions present mitten, gloves, baby’s bootees, napkins, sweaters, etc.

The birch-bark has very wide opportunities, and this is the oppinion of the supervisor of the studio "Birch-bark" Savina L. N. and the instructor of the group of "Birch-bark weaving" G.P.Platova. Flowers, vases, baskets, saltcellars, glasses boxes, decorations, decorative bast shoes - this is a short list of things you would learn to weave. Over 150 students, teachers and employees of the University have already taken the course. |

The students of the course Clothing design and artistic leather processing have made their first steps. We will observe the results of their work at the next annual exhibition in May. |
